BALANTIDIASIS INTRODUCTION You must have been wondering what balantidiasis is, calm your nerves cause am going to make you know what it really is. Balantidiasis is a name given to a large intestinal infection caused by balantidium coli. Balantidium coli is a ciliated protozoan which belongs to the Phylum Ciliophora under Sub-kingdom Protozoa, it is a Unicellular Organism though, but it's functionally equivalent to other multicellular organisms. TRANSMISSION Balantidiasis can be contacted through eating food or drinking water that has been contaminated by Balantidium Coli. Balantidium Coli exists in two Forms Namely CAPSULED FORM This is the immobile form of Balantidium coli which exists outside the Human body, it has a thick protective wall around it.
